3rd Grade - Christmas Break 12/2011 - What are your traditions?

Many people celebrate Christmas. Many people celebrate other holidays this time of year such as Hanukah and Kwanzaa. Many people create their own celebrations.

A tradition is something done on a regular basis. Putting up a Christmas tree is a tradition. Lighting a Menorah is a tradition. Always going skiing on New Years Eve is a tradition. I always do my Christmas present shopping on Christmas Eve, that is my personal tradition...

(click "Read More" to see the rest of the assignment)

Over this vacation, what are your traditions? Do you always go to the same relative's house for dinner? Do you always eat the same thing? Do you always take the same trips?

What are the things you and your family do every year at this time? What are your traditions during the Christmas Vacation?

Post your traditions in full and complete sentences.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Holidays, and of course Happy Vacation Week off!

Traditions are important in my family. We always put up the Christmas Tree and house decorations after Thanksgiving. Me and my family drink hot cocoa after everything is finished. Then, my grandmother has a cookie bake off every Christmas with all my cousins and aunts. We all choose our favorite recipe to make. My favorite is sugar cookies in the shape of stars with green sprinkles, yum. Then I stuff my face with Grandma's food and go in the backyard and play with all my cousins. I always have FUN!

Another tradition I do every year with my Mom and Dad is we get a Christmas tree before Christmas and decorate the tree together. Also my dad makes an Italian cookie called Pizelles for me and my class. On Christmas morning we eat Panettone, an Italian sweet bread, while we open presents.

My family traditions are that my family we always put up a Christmas tree. We usually spend some of my vacation in Connecticut with my cousins or my grandparents. We always have a super fun time! This Christmas I went to my grandparents house. On Christmas day every one went to my grandparents other house to take a walk. But me and my dad stayed home. We went down the street to the landscaping company that my great grandfather father founded and now my great uncle Jack runs it. All the workers were on vacation. If they weren't on vacation me and my dad probably wouldn't be allowed there.

There was a lot of frozen puddles and we jumped on them and saw how thick they were. We also jumped and climbed on giant mountains of pebbles. Dad found a really big rock on top of a big wooden bin and buried the bottom of it in the mountain of pebbles. We stood about sixteen to twenty feet away and had a contest to see who could hit the big rock first. My dad won. Then I knocked the big rock down and it slid slowly down the mountain. Then we looked in the wood shed. Then me and my dad walked up the street and went home. That was the end of that story. This year we had an early Christmas. It was on the last friday before Christmas.

One of my family traditions is to have fun! The last Wednesday before Christmas I was absent that day one of the things I did that day was ice skating. I really liked it. That might turn into a Christmas vacation tradition. Another family tradition is to have special dinner. We don't have a meal that is repeated every Christmas but our meal is always special and rare. A tradition that is in every family is Christmas vacation. It is a tradition of many things, family, teachers, schools, but it is especially a tradition to kids. I hope you had fun reading this.

We normally go to Maine for Christmas, but this year we went to Mexico, Sayulita, which is a small surf town on the edge of the west coast. Our traditions are going to Choco-Banana for breakfast, smoothies and muffins. On Christmas Eve, some friends and I ran around in the town square playing tag for hours. Then we went to get ice cream and ice pops.

Christmas means to me giving, receiving and traveling to see family. I hope everybody had a great Christmas (and got what they wanted instead of a lump of coal!!)

The first piece of technology I used was a play station 3 (PS3) and I still use it now. In five years, the software would definitely be advanced. There would be better password protection.
I seriously doubt that there will be flying cars or voice-activated cars like some people suspect. Since it is only five years from now, I think it might be more advanced but we will not know how to build or construct flying cars.

On New years eve me and my parents always run the midnight race together with NY road runners and watch the fireworks at the finish line. There is hot chocolate and sparking cider for everyone. Whoever finds it first gets and extra present! My cousin Quinton won this year and he got $10 as a present! Then we play this other game where my Dad reads "The Night Before Christmas" and every time we heard the word "the" we passed a present to the person next to us. When the story was done we opened the present that wound up in our hand. I eneded up getting a Game Stop gift card! That was my Christmas Eve tradition!

My family doesn't exactly have traditions, but we do light the candles, say the prayers (in Hebrew). and find the presents. We also sometimes play dreidel, make donuts, and throw Chanukah parties.Of course we find presents for 8 nights in a row. It's especially fun for me because my parents hide the presents and my brother and I have to find them while are parents give us hints by saying hot or cold, hot = close to the presents and cold=far from the presents. those are my holiday traditions.

My family tradition is about spending time with my family. We watch movies the night before Christmas and then go to sleep. Then we wake up at 12:00 midnight, me and my sister Jaileen race out to the living room to open our presents. We look under the tree and when we find one with our name on it we tear it apart! Then we thank our family for our presents. That is my family tradition.
