5th Grade - Christmas Break - A birds eye view...

Welcome to the 5th Grade Christmas Break 2010 assignment...

The video below was captured using a model airplane and a camcorder.

New York City from trappy : TeamBlackSheep on Vimeo.

Watch the video. What do you think about the view? Have you ever seen parts of New York from that perspective? Seeing some of the sites up close, does it change your thoughts or impressions of those landmarks (Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, etc)?

Does anyone recognize the location of the start, and finish, of the flight? I know where it is, do you? Many of you might have even been there...

Posts your thoughts and reaction to the video, as well as the answers to my questions, as comments.

Have a great vacation!

what i think about the video is its pretty cool. I liked the part when the bird was flying around new york city and i never seen any thing like that before. But what i saw that was cool was when i saw the statue of liberty. And i never saw the statue of liberty before. But you know whats interesting about the video is that birds can see that every day but people cant. But that would be call if we were birds and so we could see that every day.

It's very interesting what technology provides us with.It allows us to take videos with airplanes! How cool is that. It's very interesting of how things above look different then how we look at things from the surface. This video really think about modern life and what we can do with technology.

I found the video amazing! I couldn't believe my eyes! I really got a bird's eye view of New York City. I think the beginning was taken from West St. in Manhattan or from New Jersey. I think the ending was shot at Liberty Island or Ellis Island.

I think the view was so amazing!!! I've never seen anything like this before. It was just amazing. It changed my thoughts of how I thought New York was from a birds eye view.I think this was shot at Manhatten and then shot in New Jersey. The ending was shot probably at Ellis Island.I thought the video was interesting and FUN to watch!!!!!!!!

I think the vedio was fun really cool to watch. I have seen stuff from bottom. But i haven't seen it from up. I have never seen Statue Of Liverty that closely. It really changed my thought of loking from far and loking so closely. And i think that birds are to fly. They can see everything from up. I wish we could fly like a bird and see those beautiful things everyday.

Good job so far everyone.

The camera is attached to a remote control model airplane.

Ellis Island and New Jersey are good guesses for where it took off from, but they are incorrect. A hint... the take off and landing took place in a park near a Landing in our Borough...

C. M. GONZALEZ said...

I believe the remote control airplane came from DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bride Overpass) and then, it landed in Ellis Island. I believe the remote control airplane landed in DUMBO because I know the area very well. The airplane landed in Ellis Island because before the clip finished, the airplane passed by the Statue of Liberty. No, I have never seen New York from that perspective, but I do plan on it.

I like the model plane view because it shows every detail of the landmarks. It also shows a bird's eye view of Brooklyn and Manhattan with details that you can't see on the ground.I think the model plane took off and landed on a pier on the side of the Brooklyn or Manhattan.

This video was really amazing! It was so cool to see New York City from such a different angle (literally and figuratively). Also, it is impossible to fully appreciate the beauty of the bridges of New York from the ground. Another thing is that you can't tell exactly how big Manhattan and the East River are without a bird's eye view. Seeing the clouds and the shadows from that height is truly incredible. It must've been both scary and cool to take that video. I don't know what the last couple of seconds of the video were of, but towards the end, it showed Liberty Island.

I think the video was okay. I could have veiwed a few parts of it on Bing maps. I think that the plane took of in DUMBO or in Brooklyn Bridge Park. I think the flight ended on Governors Island.

The view was really cool. I haven't seen such a close view of New York City this close. This bird eye view was amazing because i could see actually what the birds see. My thoughts on the famous landmarks have changed because I saw the statue of liberty and Brooklyn bridge, but never this close and from this view point. I think the landing and take off of this remote control airplane was in Liberty State Park next to Ellis Island. This video was great and amazing!!! I wish i was a bird!

I think the view was nice.It looks great from a view you would not normally see.I seen a view from a airplane.I saw central park.Seeing the landmarks closer makes me think that just standing in front of it you can't see the whole landmark.

I think the view was awsome.Nope but i'll like to see parts of New York from that perspective.Yeah it does it changes my thought on the statue of liberty.I don't recognize the start, and finish and i don't know where it is.And i've never been there. And what was so cool about this video is that i got to see the statue of liberty.

I liked the video. It's like a bird can see one whole borough with it's two eyes because it can fly. Since birds can fly, they are able to cover more space than someone who walks. I believe the video started in Manhattan because I saw what looked like the Manhattan skyline. I'm not sure exactly where the video ended, but I looks like it ended at Liberty Island because I could see the Statue of Liberty.

Abdelrahman O. said...

I think it started from the Brooklyn Bridge and landed somewhere near The Statue of Liberty. I have not seen that perspective before, but it is really neat!!!

I thought this video was really interesting.Even though the video showed all of New York City it was still astonoshing. For just a model airplane that small plane was going really high! The only thing I didn't like was that the video didn't really get into detail. The plane mainly flew by the bridges stretching over The East River, and just passing through Lower Mahnhattan and Dumbo.
With the exception of Govenors Island I wish the plane would have flew around ALL OF NEW YORK CITY.

This video was really odd, to say the least. Don't get me wrong, I love the video,(even though I couldn't tell where it started/ended)there are just things I thought were awkward, like the music. Still, I cannot believe one model plane could go through most of the city in one trip.

Great work everyone!

Some of you have figured it out. The airplane takes off from the new Brooklyn Bridge Park which starts right by the Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo. The plane started and stopped a few hundred feet south of the Brooklyn Bridge.

*What I think about the view is that I liked it and that it looks incredible because you see many things you can't see from down here.
*No I have never seen things from that perspective.
*Yes it changes my thoughts because it looks so big dangerous!
*I don't recognize the location that much.
*I'm guessing that the location is Stating Island.

I think the video was interesting. When I saw the video I really thought I was standing right in front of it. The view from the airplane was really up close. I think that the flight started from the Brooklyn Bridge and ended near The Statue of liberty.

I thought the view of the bridges was very beautiful. I saw the Brooklyn bridge from an angle I can't see when we drive over it. Or see it from the street. I thought it was started form Governers island or Brooklyn Bridge park or the Promenade. I will have to watch it again because my computer froze in the middle of the video.

I think that the video was awesome. The tech that the people had is amazing. To capture all of the parts(or most of it) of NYC is pretty hard and doing it by only having to fly a plane is cool.

I think it is incredible!!! It's like a bird in the sky, with a camera so we can see to. Since there was a camera it fells like I was the one flying. I never ever felt like that in my whole entire life!!! Again, that video was awesome.

I love the view. I honestly can say I have never saw a view from that perspective of NYC. It is really cool. It changed my thoughts on NYC from a big crowded city, to a beautiful perspective city. The take off would be near a port in Brooklyn and ended in a picture of Ellis or Liberty Island.

Adriana G. said...

The view was very awesome because you are looking at the city from up above just like the birds. I have never seen New York from that perspective. Seeing the sites up close makes me want to see it in person. I have never been to the Statue of Liberty, I would love to go. I don’t recognize the start or finish of the location.
