Thanksgiving Break 5th Grade - What is Thanksgiving?

What is Thanksgiving? Do you know where the holiday came from? Do you know some of the myths of thanksgiving?

For me Thanksgiving is about remembering how we got to where we are. Remembering those who came before us to help us get where we are. It is a chance to get together with family and friends and think about our history as well as look to the future. And honestly, for me, it's also a little bit about football. Eating and watching football has always been a big part of Thanksgiving in my family. We have a football tradition, every year we play the "Turkey Bowl". The Turkey Bowl is a 1 hour touch-football game where we split the family into 2 teams and play before we eat. It's all in fun, and it works up an appetite.

What does Thanksgiving mean to you? Why do you think we celebrate it? How do you celebrate it? What are your family's traditions?

Thanksgiving means to me just being happy with what I have and in joining a nice holiday .What my family does is that we all get together and eat turkey, white rice, and apple pie. We give thanks to the pilgrims for making this holiday and letting my family be together. Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks.

ABDUL To me thanksgiving means to get with your family and have a good time together. I think we celabrate thanksgiving to remember the time when piligrims came to America, and celabrated by having a feast with some Native American. They celebrated together. Thats why we calebrate thanksgiving together with our family. We celebrate thanksgiving by eating, watching and other stuff together. My family tradition is just to have a good time with our family.

Thanksgiving is when you come together with your family and eat turkey and have a great time.I think the holiday came from during the civil war when president Abraham Lincon proclaimed a national day of Thanksgiving to be celebrated on Thursday,November 26.

For me, Thanksgiving is a time when my whole family is together, and everybody is thankful for what they have. It is a time when everyone rejoices, and should be a source of happiness for us all. But during Thanksgiving, we also should remember those who are less fortunate than us. During Thanksgiving, I celebrate in many different ways. Sometimes I visit my mom's family, and sometimes I visit my dad's family, and sometimes I go to special places during Thanksgiving. But wherever we go, Thanksgiving is a joyful time for everyone.

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for everything you have. Thanksgiving was made when the Indians(Native Americans) and the Dutch learned to get along and have a meal together. The Dutch brought their food and so did the Natives. My family tradition is that we all go to my grandmas house we eat then the kids go to play until dessert time.

Thanksgiving means to me,is that my family gathers and we give thanks to god for letting us live. Think we celebrate it because the pilgrims were giving thanks to the Native Americans for sharing with them how to plant and live. Some of my family traditions are that me and my cousins play video games until dinner.

I think we celebrate this holiday because we need to learn to be thankful for what we have. Even the littlest things.I celebrate thanksgiving by helping my family cook and set the table and other stuff like that.
My family tradition is that we would tell people that the door is always open and you are always welcome to come. We would all gather around the table, say our grace, and talk to each other about what we are thankful for. We would just celebrate!

Thanksgiving is a day when family come together to give thanks to god and other things. After people give thanks they have a big feast with turkey and other food. It was a tradition when Native Americans and Pilgrams meet each other. The Native Americans taught the Pilgrams how to live in America. The Pilgrams gave thanks to the Native Americans by having a big feast, which is now called Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving to me, means when people, friends, relatives, and your family gets together and enjoy the lovely time together. We celebrate this holiday for many reasons. Some reasons are because of the pilgrims and the thanksgiving feast that was first celebrated about 300 years ago. The main reasons for the feast is giving thanks and also enjoying the time with the people around you. We celebrate this holiday with lots of food at dinner, such as turkey, rice, mashed potatoes and much more food. My family's tradition is to get together as a family and share our thoughts about each other and the world. We also enjoy dinner together and watch fun and exciting movies and sometimes play games. Thanksgiving isn't about turkey and eating, but the main part is sharing moments together and enjoying the day.

Thanksgiving was origanally celebrated by the Pilgrims and Native American. The Pilgrims hosted a feast thanking the Native Americans for helping them grow crops and fish(keeping food through the bitter cold winter.)
About 250 years later President Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving a national holiday.Today almost everyone in the United States(of all religons) celebrates Thanksgiving.

What Thanksgiving means to me is being with my family and friends and giving thanks to God. My family and friends gathers at our house. Each one brings a different type of dish and we all sit and share each other’s food. We celebrate Thanksgiving as a reminder of how the pilgrims made a feast thanking the Native Americans for helping them. It teaches me to remember what our family and friends have done for us. In my family, we have a tradition that the day before Thanksgiving my mother puts up the Christmas tree and on Thanksgiving Day, we all gather around the tree to see the first lighting of our tree.

To me, Thanksgiving is all about happiness and spending time with your family. I think we should celebrate thanksgiving because you can spend time with your friends and family. We celebrate Thanksgiving because of the pilgrims and Native Americans. The Native Americans taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn, and traded food, clothes and weapons. By this, Thanksgiving was created in order to thank the Pilgrims and Native Americans. I don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but I go to my Friends house and spend time with them, as well as my family.

Thanksgiving means thanking families for what they done for me. It also shows love and care of what each person did. We celebrate this holiday because of the Native Americans and Dutch. They traded things and Native Americans showed how to plant, which came up to this holiday where they had a big feast and thanked each other. I don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but I usually go to my cousins house and have a small feast, where we can enjoy and spend quality time with each other. Our family tradition is we split up jobs on what to cook where my mom usually cooks the turkey and then we enjoy the small feast afterwards.

To me Thanks Giving is about having fun with your family and giving thanks to all that you have.
My family tradition is that we all go to my Uncle's house in New Jersey and cook the turkey. Everybody else cooks something and brings a dessert. Then all the kids run and play Bad-mitten and the adults watch the football game and then we find out where were sitting (because my Uncle HAS to put seating arrangements) and then we FEAST!!!
Except Thanks Giving started when THe Pilgims and the Native Americans helped each other to surrvive and had one big... Thanks giving feast!

Thanksgiving for Me is when you go out spend time with your family and enjoy a big feast. You relax with family and spend time with your family play with your cousins. I think we celebrate it because when the pilgrams came over they had a big feast and we still celebrate it today! I celebrate it by going over to a relatives house and spend time with them. This year I went over to both of my Aunt's Houses. One from each side of the family. I am thankful for everyone and everything and Thanksgiving is a nice joyful, pleasing time of the year for me!
